I missed the funeral

My father-in-law had Parkinson's disease and was rapidly failing in health. He had a heart attack in early December which no one detected until he was at the hospital. A routine doctor visit resulting in a trip to the ER with suspected pneumonia, but his heart enzymes were elevated indicating a heart attack. He didn't want a stent or open heart surgery. He was not talking much and not really able to swallow a lot for fear of aspirating. The medical professionals recommended hospice care at home. He had caring people round the clock look after him until he died just before Christmas.

He was a civil engineer and was the project manager for several landmarks around our area, including the zoo, a large bridge and the rapid transit system. He traveled to over 125 countries and he served God and his church for many years.

My daughters put together a slideshow of his life to be shown at the funeral and three of my children played music during the service. The woman who sang at my wedding sang The Old Rugged Cross. I wish I could have been there to see my father-in-law honored, but Matthew got hurt just a couple hours before it all started. I had to take him to the ER and get stitches.

Proverbs 27:1
"Boast not thyself of tomorrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth."

This was taken right before leaving home for the hospital. I put a bib on him to catch the blood since he was already dressed up for the funeral.
The hospital took care of us quickly and we made it in time for the procession to the cemetary. Here is Matthew at the reception after it was all over. He's all stitched up and trying to sip a lemonade.
Almost all the cousins together. 14 out of 15 - one had already left the church. You can tell which ones are mine.
One photo from the gravesite. It was simply a beautiful December day.

So sorry you missed the service! Poor Matthew! How did he cut his lip??

He was standing too close to a couple brothers who were playing with plastic light sabers. A light saber flew out of one of the boys' hands and hit Matthew right on the lip. The handle of it is a hard plastic so it was a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
