I'm so psyched.

On the heels of my post about clutter, I have to show you the load I took to Goodwill at about 4:45 yesterday, just in time before they closed. I have another load but it includes a coffee table and a 13" TV which I need to take to a location that accepts furniture. Plus, I have two portable cribs, more clothes, and who knows what else I'll find by the time I make another Goodwill run. I just love my newfound ability to make decisions that will give me freedom from so much clutter.

Some of these things (wheel chairs, coffee table) were given to me by my step-mother-in-law to sell in a garage sale. I loathe garage sales because I really take the dickering personally, especially when it is rude, and it takes me months to get over the cumulative hurt feelings from a sale that lasts hours. Case in point, a few weeks ago, I attempted to have a garage sale (since my s-mil asked) and had to end it after just a few minutes due to rain. In the 15 minutes I was open, a car pulled up with two women in it. I don't even think they put the car in PARK. Here is how our dialogue went...

One woman yelled from the car, "Do you have any shoes?"
I replied, "Just this one pair" as I held up the shoes for them to see. ..a nice-looking pair of gently worn (twice) shoes.
The next thing that happened shocked me. The woman said, "Lemme see." Yes. She. Did. She didn't bother to get out of the car, didn't even ask politely. Just, "Lemme see." So, being a nice person, I walked over to the window of the car with said shoes in hand.
She asked me, "How much?"
I answered, "One dollar."
She asked, "Will you take fifty cents?"
Then, making the quick decision not to sell to this customer, I said, "No."

As the proprietor of the garage sale, I reserve the right to refuse to sell to anyone I want, especially people who are less than polite or people who lie to me about what they are going to do with the items they are buying. That was probably my last garage sale. I'd rather haul it all to Goodwill and take a tax deduction.

I'm with you on taking the stuff to Goodwill. It's just not worth the hassle to get it all together, get up before the crack of dawn and deal with people and the stuff left, that you've got to take to Goodwill anyway. Take it to Goodwill and eliminate the rest!

You must have joined Flylady!!!!! I've gotten rid of a lot of clutter also. If I could just get my 12 yodd to clean out more of her junk, she would be in such a better mood.

Getting rid of stuff does psyche you. I know! It just feels so good to get rid of stuff!
Have a blessed day!

Oh, that was so funny! I hate doing yard sales too! Years ago when we still lived in a subdivision we had a garage sale and a lady tried to steal from us! I sell some things on Craigslist, but sometimes it is just easier to donate to Goodwill. Ours has a great drop off box right where I shop in town. Makes it easy.

LOved your yard sale story!! I could definitely relate!!!

So proud of you for making the difficult decisions and getting rid of all that clutter!

I was just looking at some clutter in my closet and feeling guilty -- especially after all those posts on clutter! It is a never-ending battle!
