After two years of not being able to get into my china cabinet, I finally found the key. It was always kept on my husband's key ring (for safe keeping). No one else is trusted with it, for good reason, it seems. One time I took it off before he went off to work because I needed to get something out of the cabinet. Well, before I knew it, the key went missing. Probably taken by some sticky fingers around here. I prayed it would turn up or that God would tell me where it was hiding. The children all claimed not to know where it was.
I even scheduled a locksmith to come out and make a new key, but, by 5:00 pm, he didn't show up so I called and said, "Don't bother." I definitely didn't want to trust the job to someone who cannot even call to tell me he's running late and won't be coming to my house that day. Then, the other day, I was looking for something in the desk. It's a secretary with a lid that folds down. The desk is part of a matching set that goes with the dining room table, chairs and china cabinet.
Under the lid, in the space that allows the lid to open and close, is where I spotted it. First, I noticed all the pencil shavings and shiny confetti. I thought to myself, "I need to brush out all that gunk." Then, lo and behold, I saw a key like the one that fits the china cabinet. I didn't allow my hopes to get too high because I know there is a different key that locks the desk and they both look similar. I set about trying to extricate the key from its tight quarters.
I had to unscrew the lid on both sides in order to lift it out. I went right to the china cabinet and IT FITS!!! I'm so happy.

Hooray!!!! :)
This story reminds me of the parables of the lost sheep or the lost coin! so much rejoicing when something that was hopelessly lost is found!
I love happy endings. :) Both the hutch and the desk are beautiful!
*I stumbled upon your blog thru someone elses.
